Portrait Of Arindam Goon

One of the first persons who wanted to exchange portraits with me for the Portrait Party was Arindam Goon. He asked me to exchang portraits a long time ago, but it took me about a year to get started with it. I remember printing out his picture and taking it along on several vacations and short trips (then I usually have a little bit more time to draw), but just not managing to do it. I wonder why I had difficulties getting started. So his picture has travelled to Holland, to Germany, to Switzerland and 3 times to Spain. Finally I made it. The picture was done July 2008 on the island of Fuerteventura.

And here are the portraits he drew of me:

Sorry Arindam, I don´t really know what to say, but thanks for your patience and for the great portraits.

A Real Rama Hughes

Right in time before I´m leaving on vacation I received a package by mail from Rama Hughes. As I won one of the Portrait Party contests I am now the proud owner of a

You can´t imagine how happy I am to be holding this in my hand. Actually I would never put up a portrait of myself. But this one will get a special place in our home office. Thanks Rama. A huge and warm hug to you.

Wonderful Portrait Exchange (And Another Contest)

Here is the wonderful portrait I received from Rama Hughes of the Portrait Party. I just love it and I think (hope) that it really shows me.

Me By Rama Hughes

"the photo from which this painting of kerstin (above) was drawn has been used for so many portrait swaps that it seems like an icon to me now. i thought about asking for a new picture but i was curious to see how my version would turn out. kerstin's drawing of me on the other hand (below) took me by complete surprise. it's like a portrait of my daydreams!" If you want to have the chance to get one of these great portraits by Rama Hughes, just join the the happy birthday party contest. Everybody gets a chance and I have the honor of being one of the jurors.

Spider-Rama

Remember the Portrait Party contest I won? I finally drew the portrait of Rama Hughes. He´s a huge fan of Spiderman, so I tried to make a Superhero out of him. I couldn´t help but smile when the portrait was done. Somehow he looks more cute than heroic.

Spider-Rama

Usually I do all the portraits in black and white. But this one really screamed for color, so at least I added some shadows. I would love to add some color, but I have no clue how. And I would hate to spoil the pic. Any suggestions?

The Selfportrait Party

February (in honor of Valentine's day,) was the self-portrait month at the Portrait Party. Today is February 29, so it was my last chance to draw a quick one and to post it. Here you go:

Portrait Of My Son

After the last Portrait Party contest the only one of my closer family I hadn´t drawn yet was my son. Just like my daughter I drew him when he was sitting in the bathtub. Otherwise I could have never drawn a portrait of him without a cap. It´s funny to see him without a headcovering when he usually always wears one.

I asked my son (4 years old) whether he could draw me for the Portrait Party contest and he said: "I can only draw pirates and vikings and ships and treasures and monsters. But not you. It wouldn´t be nice." I replied that it needn´t be nice. It would be great if he would just try to draw me though. When he saw that everybody exchanged portraits with me he tried it too.
When he gave me the drawing I asked him what that black line on top of my head was. He rolled his eyes: "Mom, that´s your long ponytail of course".

Portrait Of My Mother - 2

I have already done a portrait of my mom for the Portrait Party, but it was from my mind, so I couldn´t do a portrait with many details. This weekend I had a second chance. You can recognize her very well and she´s satisfied with it. But I´m not satisfied with the hair, so I´ll need a third try.

2008 Already Sucks!

(via presurfer)

I´ve been wanting to exchange portraits with Rama Hughes so badly. Along with Tommy Kane, he is my favorite illustrator. This is the second contest which was held at the Portrait Party. I was runner-up in the first contest and this time I thought I wouldn´t even find the time to join. But the last days of December I suddenly had the time and a lot of partners to exchange portraits with.
And now I´ve made it!!! Woo hoo! You can´t imagine how emotional and teary-eyed I was when I read the post announcing that I had made it. I could hug the world.

I can tell you is that this is a wonderful way to start 2008 and nope, 2008 doesn´t suck. In fact this contest really made my year! :) New Year´s Eve was great too. Maybe I´ll post that later.

BTW: Here you can check out all my portrait exchanges for The Portrait Party!

Brothers

Just by coincidence my two brothers are portrayed on the moleskine pages facing each other. I like it.

Portrait of Alexander K.

Here´s the next portrait of the Portrait Party we had at my mom´s place on Dec. 26. This time it´s my youngest brother Alex. It is the first time I had to draw a beard and that isn´t very easy.

His first two tries were without his glasses, but for the third one (his masterpiece) he put them on.

Portrait Party Contest

Rama Hughes of The Portrait Party has organized a Scavenger Hunt (A Portrait Party Contest) as the first contest went so well. I tried my best the last time but didn´t have enough portraits to win the contest.

This time there are a few more rules. The Contestants must complete a portrait swap with the following subjects:
I actually didn´t want to join the contest as December has been pretty busy and all of us sick too. But now during the holidays I did have some time. And when we were all at my mom´s place and I had just told my sister and brothers about the contest they all sat down with their pencils right away. I had 5 portraits in a few minutes!!!! I won´t win the contest this time either, but it is fun anyway.

I finally scanned the portrait of Franz Dobler (whom I had mentioned here). Just like all the other portraits, this one was done inside my portrait Moleskine.

The Portrait Party 11 - Jennifer Lee

I just received Jennifer´s portrait. Her portrait of me is wonderful. I love the portrait she did. I guess it is my favorite portrait done for the Portrait Party so far.

This is another one which is 3 months old. It was one if my first portraits and along with Christine´s portrait it is my absolute favorite.

Portrait of Lauren Eldridge

There are some portraits which I drew about 3 months ago. The partners for the Portrait Party either don´t have the time to draw the portrait of me or they may have forgotten. So I´m posting them now and in case they do send a portrait I´ll post those too.

The Portrait Party 9 - Martin dibujandoarte

Martin from dibujandoarte read that I was trying to do as many portraits as possible during the month of August. And one day he just surprised me with this portrait:

Of course I had to ask for his picture and return the favour:
