Second Addition to Joyce´s Moly_x_20

This is my second contribution to Joyce´ moleskine* for the moleskine exchange group 20. 

It took me ages to get started with this one. I had stopped with the moly_x exchanges for a while, as I was frustrated about all the lost molys and all the demotivated group members. But we are back on track and slowly starting again. 

Marty (the founder of moly_x) has been doing some reorganizing of the groups and it seems the groups are starting with new power. Great! Thanks Marty!

I didn´t have a lot of spare time the past weeks as it is vacation time and my kids are at home. That will change next week and only my daughter will be spending her time with me. So with one kid back in the kindergarten, that should give me time to complete all 3 molys in the next two weeks.

Catching Up With The Molys

I finally got a second moly started for the moly_x_19 group. Unfortunately the first one got lost.
I´m a huge fan of comics and have been inspired by Occam´s Razor, who is part of another moly_x group I´m in. Seeing her great art pushed me to try out one of my favorite artforms (comics) as well.

Second addition to Joy Eliz´ Moly 19 (2)

This is my second contribution to Joy Eliz´ moleskine for the moleskine exchange group 19. This drawing was greatly inspired by Michelle White. More information about the Moly_X International Moleskine Exchange can be found here.

Hansel and Gretel (Moly_x_24)

After three nights of drawing I think I´m (almost) finished with the moleskine for Pedro (moly_x_24). His moly has the theme "fairy tale". I chose Grimm´s Hansel & Gretel because I wanted to draw a German fairy tale and continue the trees and woods drawn by Pedro and Szaza. (The trees on the left side were drawn by Szaza. I tried to use the same shapes for the trees on the right side to frame my scene.)



I need a tip. I left the clothes of the witch and of Hansel and Gretel only with outlines, so that there would be different shades of white, gray and black. Does it look unfinished? I´m not so sure of it. Maybe at least Gretel´s clothes should be filled out a bit?

Japaneses Farts

I saw this picture by Yoko Furusho on FFFound and couldn´t get it off my mind. When I showed it to Benjamin he laughed and said, that it could be one of my drawings.
Then later today (while showing the pic to my sister) the mailman delivered a big envelope from Joyce Huang, Taiwan. Inside it where two gorgeous notebooks with prints of japanese wood cuts and a key chain with a tiny lucky cat. What a wonderful surprise.
If you haven´t seen her art before, you definitely should check out her flickr stream and blog! She´s 17 years old and just recently she had one of her first shows. I am a fan of her comic style drawings and collages, but what really wows the people are her photo realistic pencil drawings.

I´m glad that we are together in a moly_x group. Joyce, you made my day! Thanks so much.

Another Moleskine

This moly I did for someone who contacted me at flickr. He said that he really wanted to join a moleskine exchange group with me. As I have already 4 groups running and a lot of other projects going on too, I had to decline.
But I couldn´t forget his wonderful art and so we agreed on an exchange - only the two of us and without a deadline. So no pressure for this group. It took me 5 months to get the first pic drawn.
During the first scanning process a mistake occured. I like the bar code that was created.

Tribute To Edward Gorey (Moly_x_6)

I finally managed to scan this little moly with my illustration. It took me several days to get it right, as I´ve only got a small A4 scanner. The images have to be joined to one whole picture in Photoshop. And somehow this one wasn´t easy to join. The more I see of Edward Gorey´s art and writings the more I am hooked. There is always something new to discover in it.

I posted the lower picture to show you David´s addition. I love how the two pictures blend into each other. You see the guy at the left? The fur collar fits perfectly into David´s bushes.

Art Trade

Lisa, whom I know from the moly_x_20 group sent me an email asking for an art trade. As there are phantastic artists participating I joined too. Basically you create one piece of art and get another piece back. It can be a little drawing, a print, a comic or a zine, a photo, a felted creation, a beaded thing... Whatever fits your niche and can be dropped in the mail within a week.

I have to send my art to Dawn. The funny thing is that the day I received the email telling me I´m supposed to send Dawn my creation, I also received the book "1000 Artist Journal Pages" of which she is the author. What a coincidence.

The letter will be off tomorrow and I hope Dawn will like it!

Tribute to Edward Gorey Moly_X_6 (1)

Now that I received this Moleskine in the second round, I was finally able to scan the pages of my first entry. It was the first entry of the first moleskine exchange I started.
If you are feeling bored, you can have a closer look at the drawing in original size. Try to find the corpse, the abducted baby, the lizard and the dog. Good luck! ;)

My Favorite Moly_x Exchanges

I loved to add to Steve´s moly. Somehow it is easy for me to add to his art. Look at the pic below. You almost can´t see where my drawing merges into his.

And it is similar with Samatha´s art. I really love her style and love adding my art to hers.

Dark VS. Light

A friend of mine recently told me that my art was too "dark" and that there was always some hidden undertone to it. I understand why she said that, but I do not see this in all of my drawings.

As I´m trying to slowly find a job (at least a side job) where I can also be creative and hopefully do some drawings and illustrations, I would like to know whether you prefer the "dark" and moody pictures or the other lighter and more colorful ones.
