EDM #13 - Your Telephone

Even if the topic is "Draw your telephone", I don´t really have a lot to say today.

EDM #13 - Your Telephone

FYI: The cell phone looks huge, but in fact it is credit card sized without the covering.

EDM #1 - A Shoe (Amy, Amy, Amy by Amy Winehouse)

I won´t be blogging the next few days either. I´m currently sketching EDM #1 - Draw a shoe. It is not ready yet, so I´ll post only part of the whole pic. In fact, when I´ll post the whole sketch, you´ll have a better idea why I didn´t have the time to blog the past days. A little clue: I spent some time at the place where I bought this shoe. (Actually I thought that I would need some practice to be able to walk in them. But in fact it´s not very difficult.)
Due to several requests ;), I have posted a pic of the real shoes at flickr.

EDM #1 - A Shoe

Talking about
shoes, heels and "walking past his desk in heels": Here´s another great song (from the first album) by Amy Winehouse. Please listen to it.

Amy, Amy, Amy
b
y Amy Winehouse

Attract me
'til it hurts to concentrate
Distract me
stops me doing work I hate

and just to show him how it feels
I walk past his desk in heels
one leg resting on a chair
from the side he pulls my hair

(Amy Amy Amy)
Although I've been here before
(Amy Amy Amy)
He's just too hard to ignore
Masculine you spin a spell
I think you'd wear me well
(Amy Amy Amy)
Where's my moral parallel?

It takes me
half an hour to write a verse
He makes me
imagine it from bad to worse

My weakness for the other sex
every time his shoulders flex
way the shirt hangs off his back
my train of thought spins right off track

(Amy Amy Amy)
Although I've been here before
(Amy Amy Amy)
He's just too hard to ignore
Masculine he spins a spell
I think he'd wear me well
(Amy Amy Amy)
so where's my moral parallel?

His own style
right down to his Diesel jeans
Immobile
I can't think by any means

Underwear peeks out the top
I'll let you know when you should stop
from the picture my mind drew
I know I'd look good on you

(Amy Amy Amy)
Although I've been here before
(Amy Amy Amy)
You're just too hard to ignore
Masculine you spin a spell
I think you'd wear me well
(Amy Amy Amy)
so where's my moral parallel?

Creative energy abused
all my lyrics go unused

but when I clock black hair, blue eyes
a teardrop I fantasise

(Amy Amy Amy)
(Amy Amy Amy)
Although I've been here before
(Amy Amy Amy)
He's just too hard to ignore
Masculine he spins a spell
I think he'd wear me well
(Amy Amy Amy)
so where's my moral parallel?

(Amy Amy Amy)
(Amy Amy Amy)
Although I've been here before
(Amy Amy Amy)
He's just too hard to ignore
Masculine he spins a spell
I think he'd wear me well
(Amy Amy Amy)
so where's my moral parallel?

Want to tell me something about your weaknesses?

EDM #54 - Something Round (Cheeseburger)

Somehow I missed last weeks EDM challenge. So I´m handing it in a little late. My first thought when I heard last weeks topic (Draw something round) was a Bagel. But immediately after that I had a cheeseburger in mind.
EDM #117 - Something Round (Cheeseburger)

I really love and enjoy eating! ;) I had a filling Greek dinner tonight, so my cravings for a cheeseburger have stopped for a while.

EDM #116 - Something Green (IF: Remember) Iguana

About 9 years of my childhood I spent in India, the last 5 of them in a city called Alwar. The climate there is quite dry as it lies on the border of the Thar Desert (which is the world's seventh largest desert and is without doubt the most inhospitable ecoregion in the Indo-Pacific region). The summer season in Alwar is very hot, the average temperature in the summers ranges up to 41° C (106° F).

So you can imagine what kind of animals and insects we had in our garden: chameleons, lizards, cobras, praying mantis, scorpions, lots of strange looking insects and thankfully also a family of mungos had settled in our sewer.
I remember that I was always fascinated by all of these (mainly brownish and greenish) animals but that they were always very strange and frightning to me too. I used to spend hours watching them in the summer heat but mostly at a "safe" distance.

EDM #116 - Something Green (IF: Remember) Iguana

This image shows a green iguana, which we didn´t have in our garden, but it reminded me of the chameleons.

BTW: This is my first drawing for Illustration Friday. I have been a member of that group for quite some time now, but never managed to submit an image before.

EDM #110 - A Flame

EDM #110 - A Flame

I´ve already been bored with the Everyday Matters (EDM) weekly challenge. I always have the feeling I would rather draw something else than the weekly topic. But then I do know that it will help me improve my skills if I draw what I am asked to, so I force myself to complete some more themes of their long list of challenges.

EDM #7 - Bottle (of Whisky)

I received a new book Everyday Matters by Danny Gregory. I spent some time reading it and found it quite inspiring. I did some quick sketches after the reading.
This is the first sketch where I managed to draw simple, single lines (at least some of them), so I guess I´m improving. :D

EDM #7 - Bottle

This is a miniature bottle of Bruichladdich whisky. It´s a special bottle and I have been saving it for a special occasion. Tonight is Purim and you are supposed to get drunk. So maybe I´ll open it tonight! ;)

BTW: Anybody interested in whisky should subscribe to WHISKYCAST.

EDM #108 - Light Bulb

I tend to overdraw and to get lost in details. But I´m trying to keep my lines and the sketches simple. So this one was good practice.

EDM #54 - Someone You Love

Today my daughter (4 years old) told me that when she grows up, she doesn´t want to be like me. She wants to be normal! ;)
I tried to find out her understanding of the term `normal´, but she didn´t feel like telling me. I adore her and I´m sure I´ll hear more wise words from her. :)

EDM #54 - Someone You Love

This is my first portrait ever. It shows her asleep on the table - tired from Kindergarden.
There´s a lot to improve and a lot of things I would change, but I´m satisfied with my first attempt.

EDM #46 - Something Holiday Themed

This postal stamp was designed by Chen Shaohua specially for the Chinese New Year 2007 - The year of the red fire pig.

Legend has it that in ancient times, Buddha asked all the animals to meet him on Chinese New Year. Twelve came, and Buddha named a year after each one. He announced that the people born in each animal's year would have some of that animal's personality. Those born in pig years tend to have excellent manners, make and keep friends, work very hard, and appreciate luxury. They are very loving and make loyal partners. Humphrey Bogart, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ernest Hemingway, Alfred Hitchcock, Mahalia Jackson, David Letterman, and Arnold Schwarzenegger were all born in the year of the pig.

EDM #46 - Something Holiday Themed

To those who can read Chinese: The pic I found on the net was so tiny, that I couldn´t see any details of the Chinese signs. So these are not really Chinese signs, but the ones I mostly made up myself.

EDM #106 - Something Tart or Sour

This is the current challenge EDM #106. I wanted to keep up with the group. Only two challenges (EDM #104 Salt and Pepper Shakers, EDM #105 Pair of Scissors) are missing from the list. I will catch up soon.
I have never tried an Etrog/Citron but it is supposed to be tart and sour. Someone told me Etrog jam tastes great. Has anybody of you tasted the fruit or the jam?

EDM #103 - Exercise Equipment

Ever since I was about 15 years old I wanted to have a unicycle. Nov. 2005 - getting 30 years old - I received one from my family as a birthday present. You can´t imagine how happy I was to receive it. One year has passed and I still haven´t learnt how to ride it.
But we are moving soon and our new flat has a long corridor. Perfect for practicing! :)

Just a very quick illustration of a power plug, so that I can soon catch up with the current challenge (#105 - Scissors).

EDM #101 - Bar of Soap (Every Day Matters)

To force ;) myself to get more routine in sketching I went out and bought 7 Moleskines and joined the EDM-group, which grew out of Danny Gregory's weblog. There is a weekly drawing challenge and members share their drawings in the flickr group.
I started with EMD #101. So I had to draw a bar of soap. I´m surprised (and satisfied) how it turned out, as I hadn´t expected to draw a recognizable bar of soap. :)

EMD #101 - A Bar of Soap

I´m not sure whether I should color the sketch. Any ideas?
