German PostSecret

I´ve told you more than often that PostSecret is one of my favorite sites on the net and I have to have each of the books published by Frank Warren.
Now a German PostSecret site has been launched. You can check out the secrets here and they even have an English translation.
"If my dad knew what I did with his brush ... It's his own fault, if he doesn't give me my pocket money."

Sebastian, who runs German PostSecret, sent me a huge stack of empty PostSecret postcards to distribute in Munich. I can´t wait to see more secrets online. BTW: Secrets in English are welcomed too he said.

Illustration Contest: Pro Bono DOES Work!

In my last post I wrote about an illustration contest. It is for a paperbook which will be published by a German literature print & online magazine called „spa_tien".
To find more participants I asked a few magazines, forums, blogs and illustrators where else I could post about the contest. I got some replies and suggestions. But then I was very surprised about quite some negative messages I got: Telling me that if I'll be making money off of this, so should my contributors. And no professional would participate!
  • First of all: I´m just helping the publishers of the magazine to find an illustrator. There´s no profit I get from this (except I do hope to get a free copy of that book ;) )
  • Second: The whole production is privately financed by the publishers. They do not earn a single penny from this. They all have their regular jobs and do this in their spare time! The book will be sold at cost.
  • So it´s all voluntary service - even by the authors who contribute to the magazine and the book.
Today I received a wonderful message from Alyson B. Stanfield from Stanfield Art Associates. She said that she would be happy to post about the contest on her blog this weekend. Thanks! I needed that to hold up my positive commitment for the contest.

BTW: I would be happy about more links and specially about some more participants! :)

Portrait Surprise

I check out a lot of blogs daily, but there are only a few blogs where I enjoy every single post. Today I was surprised pleasantly by one of my favorite blogs: logbuch - isla volante. I just discovered the island recently and I admire the joint project by three writers (sofffi täuscher-art, markus a. hediger, marea gomez) and a studio (rittiner and gomez)

Isla volante is a virtual island - somewhere, nowhere, out there, in the future and you can read about the happenings on the island, the people living there and about the visitors.
When I stumbled across the blog incidentally, I felt like I had found a little treasure, which I wanted to keep for myself. But I´m sharing it with you.
The logbook always shows the same style watercolor painting with a few lines of text. Even if you do not understand the German text, take a look at the paintings. They are wonderful!

And today when I went to read the new entry, I immediately recognized myself and thought I must be dreaming. I had to look twice. It is
an incredible feeling to be drawn by someone whose art I have been admiring daily. Thanks!

BTW: If you need the translation of any of their texts, just let me know!
