Gangsters from Chicago - Gift from Rio

Last week I received a gift from Markus A. Hediger from Rio for drawing the cover illustration of his newest book "Das Tam-Tam Grand Hotel".
Gangster - Die Bosse von Chicago
Today I finally opened it. I knew I wouldn´t be able to write about it and say thanks for it, so I waited until I had some spare time. I received "Gangster - Die Bosse von Chicago" by Robert Nippoldt, with outstanding drawings made by the talented court sketch artist. (While browsing his website I already saw the next book I need: Jazz im New York der Wilden Zwanziger It is a wonderful huge book which has been on my wish list for some years now. I love the size, the style, the illustrations, the colors, the story, everything about it. Here are some pics to give you an idea about the book.

The Godfather:

Lieber Markus, vielen, vielen Dank für das wunderbare Buch. Ich freue mich riesig darüber. Es trifft ganz meine Erwartungen. Link

Cover Illustration "Das Tam Tam Grand Hotel"

After drawing the cover illustration for Markus A. Hediger´s last book, he asked me to do the next one too. Apparently he was satisfied with my work.
Here you go...

For the German readers: The book "Das Tam Tam Grand Hotel" can be ordered at amazon or at the Swiss publishing house edition taberna kritika.

Book Cover Design

Monday night (actually at 5:30 am in the morning) I completed my first commissioned work since having the kids. (And that is a long time after 5.5 years.) I was asked to draw a cover for a book called "Krötenkarneval" by Markus A. Hediger. He is a Swiss author who emigrated to Brazil with his family a few months ago. Unfortunately the book is not available in English (yet?). The stories are fantastic and lovely to read. It will be available from Juli 1, 2008 at Edition Neue Moderne.
I enjoyed doing the cover and it made me happy and proud that the two publishers and the author of the book are as content with it as me. Anybody else needs a cover to a book? ;)

Portrait Surprise

I check out a lot of blogs daily, but there are only a few blogs where I enjoy every single post. Today I was surprised pleasantly by one of my favorite blogs: logbuch - isla volante. I just discovered the island recently and I admire the joint project by three writers (sofffi täuscher-art, markus a. hediger, marea gomez) and a studio (rittiner and gomez)

Isla volante is a virtual island - somewhere, nowhere, out there, in the future and you can read about the happenings on the island, the people living there and about the visitors.
When I stumbled across the blog incidentally, I felt like I had found a little treasure, which I wanted to keep for myself. But I´m sharing it with you.
The logbook always shows the same style watercolor painting with a few lines of text. Even if you do not understand the German text, take a look at the paintings. They are wonderful!

And today when I went to read the new entry, I immediately recognized myself and thought I must be dreaming. I had to look twice. It is
an incredible feeling to be drawn by someone whose art I have been admiring daily. Thanks!

BTW: If you need the translation of any of their texts, just let me know!
