R. C. Gorman (ATC ) (IF: missing)

Whenever there is something missing cuddle up in a huge soft blanket or shawl. It really helps! This weeks topic on Illustration Friday is "missing" (suggested by Brian Blankenship).



Rudolph Carl Gorman (July 26, 1931 - November 3, 2005) was a Native American artist of the Navajo nation. Referred to as "the Picasso of American art" by the New York Times, his paintings are primarily of Native American women and characterized by fluid forms and vibrant colors, though he also worked in sculpture, ceramics, and stone lithography. You can see some of his work here.

Miguel Martinez (ATC)

Miguel Martinez was born and lives in Taos, New Mexico in 1951. He has been a successful jewelry designer and painter.

"Still in his early twenties, Miguel found a style which has become his signature. Moved by deep respect and admiration, he began a series of large faces of women, enlarging and stylizing the eyes, endowing them with mystery of illusive and provocative expressions, created them in an ambience of everyday life, giving them a voice which has inordinately proved to speak to the hearts of a universal following.

After almost twenty years this series continues, though Miguel says, "The women have changed as time passed, and I have changed as well. In my travels around the world, the women I have encountered have all found their way into my paintings. Each face I paint, to me, has a different identity. But I feel from the beginning they have all shared a common bond -- their values, their character -- things almost forgotten in our everyday day routines. These women are upright, strong yet gentle, proud of who they are. They have nothing to hide.""

EDM #125 - A Bird (ATC)

I have missed joining the EDM for weeks now. But here I go again:
This is another atc I made for a friend of mine. She´s a phantastic artist and it´s amazing what she can draw on these tiny cards with oil paint. Her nickname is cavewoman, as she lives in a house which is mainly built underground. She likes ravens and crows, so this is the card I made for her.



ATC: The only rule for these cards is their size (2.5 x 3.5 inches, the same as commercial trading cards, such as baseball cards and cards for trading card games, American credit cards sized). There are, however, certain conventions usually observed by those who make and trade these cards, such as the expectation that they be traded, not sold, and that they be created as unique works or small limited editions of prints. Artists generally sign and date the back, and may also include a title and contact information. The face-to-face trading session is considered an integral part of the concept, although many people find each other via the internet and trade by mail.

The Kiss Of Death (ATC) IFN: the agony and/or the ecstasy

Edvard Munch, the gifted Norwegian painter and printmaker, was his country's greatest artist. He also played a vital role in the development of German expressionism. Many of his works concentrate on the themes misery, sickness, and death.



The above pic is my first entry for Illustration Friday Night. That´s another group which is similar to Illustration Friday, but it is an uncensored alternative where the drawings do not have to be cute and nice. :)

Zurich Impressions - 2 (ATC)

While I´m still courageous I´ll quickly post another two BDSM-images which are older pics. Very quick... before I change my mind (Don´t want to know what some of you are thinking by now ;) )





These two atcs were made for a friend of mine in the UK. He asked me for them as he collects pictures of bondage women. Crazy British! Or should I say crazy Swiss? ;) (But I had fun drawing them.)

Kabuki, A Comic Book Series by David Mack (ATC)

I´m really into comic books. Specially those with beautiful (often dark) artwork or those with great content.
KABUKI is a comic book series by artist and writer David Mack, first published in 1994 by Caliber Press and later by Image Comics. The series concerns an assassin belonging to a special, government-backed circle of masked and costumed female enforcers called the Noh in near-future Japan and her struggle for her identity.
So far I have only had a short glance into the series, but the artwork is great and the content too. So I´m planning on getting the whole series.

Tiger and Dragon (ATC)

Here´s another Yin Yang related pic. I mentioned the concept before. For those who haven´t read that post, here you go:
The concepts of yin and yang originate in ancient Chinese philosophy and metaphysics, which describe two primal opposing but complementary principles said to be found in all objects and processes in the universe.

Yin (Chinese: 陰 or 阴) is the darker element; it is passive, dark, feminine, downward-seeking, and corresponds to the night.

Yang (陽 or 阳) is the brighter element; it is active, light, masculine, upward-seeking and corresponds to the day.



Yin is often symbolized by water or earth, while yang is symbolized by fire, or wind.
Yin and yang are descriptions of complementary opposites rather than absolutes. Any yin/yang dichotomy can be seen as its opposite when viewed from another perspective. The categorization is seen as one of convenience. Most forces in nature can be seen as having yin and yang states, and the two are usually in movement rather than held in absolute stasis.

Clowns in the Carneval Season (ATC)

I love them both, unfortunately I don´t have the colored one any more. I´m sure these clowns will cheer me up. It´s Carneval season here in Germany and I bet I´ll see some of the clowns out there in the streets the next days.
