1001 Journals

The place I live at and the place I would like to be
My mom just recently gave me this journal. As I don´t keep a diary and the pages are a bit thin for drawing I thought I could use it for 1001 journals, a project which evolved out of 1000 journals. 1000 journals had been the attempt by Someguy, a San Francisco based artist, to follow 1000 journals throughout their travels, to see where they go, and what people do with them. From all the 1000 books he sent off summer 2000 1 came back in 2003. What happened to the other 999? A documentary (telling the story about these 999 journals) has been just released this month at the Roxie Theater in San Francisco.
New journal
Basically you sign up to add to a journal or you start one yourself and let it out into the wild. I sent this one (registered as Journal 2898) off to the States and after the next participant has added some art to it, the book will be left in some public place (airport, subway, bus, pedestrian zone, McDonald´s, etc.). This way it will hopefully travel a lot and maybe one day it will be returned to me.
The place I live at ...

... and the place I would like to be
I do hope that I will one day get this journal back.

Fantasy Filmfest & Asia Filmfest

Next week the Fantasy Filmfest (September 3 - 10, 2008) will begin and in Oktober the Asia Filmfest (October 31 - November 9, 2008*). Last year I had the possibilty of seeing a lot of movies at the Asia Filmfest and I hope I can do the same this year. But first I´ll try to get to the Fantasy Filmfest. Actually it should be called Horror Filmfest, or is it just me choosing the scary movies?

* Hopefully I can spend my birthday at the movies.

3 Moly_x to complete this week

Three moly_x to do
Pic taken with my iphone

I didn´t have a lot of spare time the past weeks as it is vacation time and my kids are at home. That will change next week and only my daughter will be spending her time with me. So with one kid back in the kindergarten, that should give me time to complete all 3 molys in the next two weeks.

Mobile blogging from my new iPhone3G

Benjamin surprised me with an iPhone. I'm not into the newest technical stuff, but I can tell you that this is a wonderful present.
mARTa regularly posts pictures at her blog with the remark: "Sent from me and my cool iPhone". I really love this sentence and had to copy it. So here you go...

Make my day by Waldeck

I just discovered the song "Make my day" by Waldeck at Narziss und Goldhund. He is right. What a wonderful way to start the day.

"lose the spliff, get off the sofa and twirl your feet on the polished dancefloors of the ballrooms and speakeasies of the late 1920s, because that is where waldeck has taken us.
swing meets tango in a heavenly cocktail promising a life richer than the thick smoke of cuban cigars. the opener “make my day” evokes the days when al capone made a fortune selling booze. singer joy malcolm (late of incognito) gives up an impressive performance."
"although most of the albums fantastic arrangements have been recorded live, waldeck achieves time travel though the use of old gramophones and shellac recordings." (text taken from Waldeck)
I´m off to order the album "Ballroom Stories". You can also download the songs at Amazon.com.

Your Face - Tea Towels

Damien Weighill draws faces for free if you send him a photo of yourself. Last year he drew me as a pirate. Now he has printed tea towels with some of the faces he drew. You can order them here or buy them at the Red Door Gallery.
I received a towel some weeks ago. I am not sure what to do with it now. It is too nice to be used. I´m thinking of hanging it on the wall or making a cushion out of it. Any other ideas?

Hansel and Gretel (Moly_x_24)

After three nights of drawing I think I´m (almost) finished with the moleskine for Pedro (moly_x_24). His moly has the theme "fairy tale". I chose Grimm´s Hansel & Gretel because I wanted to draw a German fairy tale and continue the trees and woods drawn by Pedro and Szaza. (The trees on the left side were drawn by Szaza. I tried to use the same shapes for the trees on the right side to frame my scene.)

My contribution in Pedro´s Moly_x_24

I need a tip. I left the clothes of the witch and of Hansel and Gretel only with outlines, so that there would be different shades of white, gray and black. Does it look unfinished? I´m not so sure of it. Maybe at least Gretel´s clothes should be filled out a bit?

Aaliyah on 08/08/08

The Kindergarden is closed during August, so for me this day was full of child activities - outside and at home.

Work in Progress (Sugar and Tea bags)

I still love Andrea´s style and I keep trying to learn from her wonderful sketches and drawings. But I have never got the patience for it, so this piece was started in Fuerteventura in July. I need to finish it.

Jerusalem Sketches - The Schatz Garden

March 31, we took a bus to Ofra and spent the day there with the Schatz family. They had invited Benjamin in January 2008 to spend Shabbes with them and he wanted me to meet them too. They are a wonderful family and I enjoyed our stay there. Thanks, Family Schatz for the warm welcome, the garden tour and its wonderful dried fruit and the wonderful lunch, tea and cookies.

Update:
I forget to mention that in the evening we drove with Lisa and Yecheskel back to Jerusalem to an Asian restaurant. At the Yoja we enjoyed Sushi, Dim Sum, Sake, etc... It has been years since we last went to an Asian restaurant. Boy, I do miss it again.
